Last year's Used Clothing Collection Campaign, one of the "Engaging the Community" initiatives of the Force and a joint venture with the Salvation Army, has proved to be another huge success. This annual campaign collected another record-breaking 101,386 kilogrammes of clothing and used items from 20 collection points set up within the Force, a rise of more than 34 per cent over 2008.

To thank Formation units, staff associations, resident groups, police clubs and management companies for their support for the collection campaign, a Handover cum Recognition Ceremony was held at Police Headquarters on March 10, with Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chau Kwok-leung and the Salvation Army Commanding Officer, Lieu-Colonel Samuel Pho, officiating.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chau appreciated the efforts of Force members, their families and other staff members taking part in the collection campaign. He stressed that the Force's commitment to the campaign served two purposes: promoting green concept by encouraging Force members to optimise the use of resources and to extend the Force's caring to the less privileged. He also noted that despite the aftermath of the global financial tsunami in 2009, officers and their families had come forward to support charity.

Expressing his gratitude to the Force, Lieu-Colonel Samuel Pho, together with Lieu-Colonel Donni Pho and Major Priscilla Nanlabi, presented souvenirs to representatives of the participating units for supporting the Salvation Army's fund-raising efforts.

Now that the yearlong Used Clothing Collection Campaign for 2010 has started, Force members are encouraged to send their used clothing to the collection points set up at Police Headquarters, New Territories South Regional Headquarters, Police Officers' Club, Police Sports and Recreation Club, Police Married Quarters in Old Bailey Street, Tsing Yi, Sheung Shui, Yuen Long and Police College as well as the Disciplined Services Quarters at Ko Cheung Court, Kwai Fuk Court, Kwai Yung Court, Lai King, West Kowloon, Wong Tai Sin and Yau Mei Court. For enquiries on the collection points, contact Force Welfare Officer Alice Ho on 2860-6290.
