With the approach of the Soccer World Cup tournament, Crime Wing has set up a working group to thrash out measures to tackle illegal bookmaking activities. Co-ordinated by Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB), the working group comprises representatives from Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB), Financial Investigation Division (FID) of Narcotics Bureau, Technology Crime Division (TCD) of Commercial Crime Bureau, Crime Prevention Bureau, Police Public Relations Branch and all Regions.

To enhance officers' knowledge and capability of handling illegal bookmaking cases, the working group held two half-day experience-sharing sessions for a total of 350 officers at Police Headquarters on May 10 and 11, with representatives from OCTB, FID, TCD and CIB sharing their experience of investigating and mounting operations against illegal bookmaking activities.

Working group Chairman Superintendent (SP) Man Tat-shing of OCTB pointed out that the Force would continue to adopt the four-pronged approach of prevention, education, intelligence collection and enforcement to combat illegal bookmaking. He was confident that the sharing sessions would help officers tackle the problem more effectively.

SP Man also took the opportunity to remind all members of the Force not to indulge in gambling.
