In a bid to engage the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) youth, Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) organised an Inter-District Cricket Tournament at Police College on May 29 for 80 NEC youngsters.

Taking part in seven-a-side matches were NEC Junior Police Call (JPC) members from YTDIST, Wan Chai, Sham Shui Po, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun districts. Following a very close competition, Tuen Mun District captured the winner trophy.

On hand to support the tournament were YTDIST Commander Lau Yip-shing, Yuen Long District Commander Li Kin-fai, YTDIST Deputy Commander Pang Shu-hung, Sham Shu Po District Deputy Commander Dave Grant and Tuen Mun District Deputy Commander Peter Cornwaithe. Also present were many community leaders, including Honorary Advisor of JPC YTDIST, Mr Nanu Lachman, and Mr Batra Singh from the Sikh community.

YTDIST Police Community Relations Officer, Chief Inspector M. Khan, who organised the event, pointed out that YTDIST came up with the idea of supporting NEC youths in developing their favourite sport - cricket - few years ago. The first and second tournaments were held in January and March last year on Police College's cricket pitch. YTDIST has also formed two teams, one comprising NEC youths and the other, with some local Chinese players. A junior team has also been formed for primary schools in YTDIST.
