Possible theft on the site of the preliminary foundation works for the Express Rail linking with the Mainland railway systems is a major concern for Tsim Sha Tsui Division (TSTDIV). The works are underway in Yau Tsim District, covering a huge construction site accessed by a large number of construction vehicles.

Other than the company responsible for the foundation works, more than ten sub-contractors are also taking part in the works, employing a large number of workers. Parking on the construction site are dozens of big construction vehicles of different companies, and valuable equipment are placed on the site, such as surveying equipment or gauges, which are potential targets for thieves. As a precautionary measure, TST Divisional Commander Brian Lowcock has exclusively organised for the foundation works company and the sub-contractors a sharing session on how to prevent theft on the construction site.

At the session held in the conference room of the Express Rail on June 10, officers of Kowloon West Regional Crime Prevention Office and Yau Tsim Intelligence Unit gave briefings on the modus operandi of thieves and advice on preventive measures. Task Force officers of TSTDIV and Yau Ma Tei Division had a wide-ranging discussion with the audience with a view to forging a closer partnership in preventing theft on the construction site.

The sharing session makes for co-operation in combating construction site theft
