$900,000 committed for Operation Breakthrough
Operated by officers in their spare time, Operation Breakthrough has been offering sporting opportunities to hundreds of youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds since 1996 in a bid to prevent them from embarking on a life of crime.
Operation Breakthrough also aims to inculcate the importance of teamwork, trust and respect among youngsters. Its programmes are run by serving and retired police officers with the help of social workers, and the success of the programmes have earned the sponsorship of many local organisations.
A long-time sponsor of Operation Breakthrough, Standard Chartered Bank, announced on July 12 its continuous sponsorship with a $900,000 commitment for a three-year period from 2010 to 2013.
