Mr Akinori Tsuruya, Head of INTERPOL Tokyo, Director for International Investigative Operations, National Police Agency of Japan, accompanied by Mr Ysuyoshi Endo, Consul of Japan in Hong Kong, visited Crime Wing on June 22. Assistant Commissioner (Crime) To Chun-wai and Crime Wing Headquarters Chief Superintendent Yu Mun-sang met the guests and had a constructive and fruitful discussion with them on matters related to transnational crime and international police collaboration. Mr Tsuruya also took the opportunity to visit Criminal Intelligence Bureau, Liaison Bureau (LB) and Organised Crime and Triad Bureau to exchange experience of intelligence-sharing and joint efforts in fighting organised crime. At the end of the visit to LB, Mr Tsuruya, on behalf of the National Police Agency of Japan, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to LB Woman Detective Senior Inspector Wong Hau-suen for her contribution over the last two years to cementing the partnership in criminal investigations between INTERPOL Tokyo and INTERPOL Hong Kong, China. In the past two years, a number of requests concerning investigations were handled with many transnational crime cases successfully detected. The Mutual Legal Assistance agreement between Hong Kong and Japan was signed in 2008 and came into effect in 2009, marking a milestone of the closer co-operation between Hong Kong and Japan in fighting transnational crime.
