YLDIST runs "Smart Summer" |
||
Adopting a multi-agency approach, Yuen Long District (YLDIST) has rolled out a large -scale summer anti-juvenile crime project - "Smart Summer" - in conjunction with the Yuen Long District Secondary School Heads Association and the non-government organisations in the local community. The project, which is also sponsored by the Yuen Long District Fight Crime Committee, offers a variety of activities, including leadership camps, visit to correctional institutes, seminars conducted by rehabilitated young drug addicts, variety shows and a carnival. The "Smart Summer" project started with a selection exercise for the "Yuen Long Secondary School Federation Student Leaders Training Programme" jointly operated by the YLDIST Police Community Relations Office and the Enlighten Centre of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The selection exercise identified around 100 candidates for a three-day leadership training camp run by social workers, Police School Liaison Officers and police volunteers. After their training, the students will be presented with certificate and are expected to play the roles of school ambassadors to disseminate anti-crime messages to their peers and encourage them to stay away from drugs and crime.
