The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, received fight crime ambassadors at Government House on July 22 and wished them a smooth and rewarding trip to Canada.

The 21 young ambassadors are winners of the secondary school, post secondary school and non-government organisation (youth service and uniformed group) categories of the "Hang Seng Bank - Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition 2010". They will leave for Canada on August 19 to visit police and other government departments in Vancouver and Regina during an eight-day trip.

Commending their outstanding performances in the competition, Mr Tsang said the ambassadors had shown brilliant leadership and analytical skills.

The theme of this year's competition was "Combating Youth Drug Abuse and Cyber Crime". Mr Tsang congratulated the ambassadors and called on them to keep on fighting online crimes and disseminating anti-crime and anti-drug messages to their peers and the community.

He also reminded them to make good use of the trip to introduce to Canada the latest developments in Hong Kong and spread fight crime messages.

Meanwhile, the young ambassadors, along with other winners, received their awards and scholarships from Commissioner Tang King-shing and the General Manager and Head of Treasury and Investment of Hang Seng Bank, Mr Andrew Fung, at a prize presentation ceremony at the Police Headquarters on July 14.

Organised biennially by the Police Public Relations Branch with sponsorship from Hang Seng Bank, this year's competition attracted a record number of more than 140,000 participants. The contestants had gone through a three-phase evaluation on web game, quiz, reports on newspaper articles, essay writing, project presentation, aptitude test and interview.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang commended the awardees for their outstanding performances and wished them a fruitful visit to Canada. He hoped they would ably carry out the responsibilities of a fight crime ambassador and set a good example to their peers for the fight against crime.

Also addressing the winners, Mr Fung said: "Hang Seng Bank is pleased to have sponsored this meaningful competition for the ninth consecutive time as part of its commitment to nurturing values among young people. We believe this initiative helps raise awareness of youth crime and contributes to the social developments in Hong Kong."
