Twenty officers, comprising a Detective Senior Inspector (DSIP), six Sergeants (SGT) and 13 Police Constables, have been picked as award winners of the Outstanding Yuen Long Police Contest by a selection panel formed by members of the Yuen Long District Fight Crime Committee (YL DFCC). The champion of the contest is PC Kwong Ho-yin, trailed by DSIP Tang Wing-tin as first runner-up, and by PCs Wong Kin-pui and Kwok Wai-ming as second runners-up. In addition, there are 17 Credit Award winners, namely SGTs Chow Kin-man, Choi Ying-lung, Sit Wan-hei, Leung Kin-chung, Yuen Wai-ling and Chu Yat-yan, and PCs Man Ken-wai, Leung Hon-sang, Shiu Chun-tung, Sit Wing-cheong, Wong Chun-biu, Ho Man-chun, Leung Wai-ling, To Ka-lam, Lo Wing-pan and Chiu Sin-yiu. During the contest, members of the local community nominated officers who had provided quality services, for consideration by the selection panel. The award presentation was held at the Yuen Long Town Hall on July 23, with Yuen Long District Council Chairman, Mr Leung Che-chueng; DFCC Chairman, Mr Lee Yuet-man; Yuen Long District Officer, Mr Yeung Tak-keung; and Yuen Long District Commander Li Kin-fai officiating. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lee said the competition was organised for the local community to pay recognition of police services and show their support for frontline officers. At the ceremony, the District Council, DFCC, six rural committees and management offices took the opportunity to present nine banners to Yuen Long District in appreciation of its good work. The YL DFCC selected PC Kwong as the champion for his performance as a member of the Tin Shui Wai Division Task Force. In the past 12 months, he had arrested 16 persons who were subsequently convicted of peddling drugs. After work, he had actively taken part in police volunteer services and promoted local activities for youth. The first runner-up, DSIP Tang, had smashed a triad gang active in blackmailing and intimidating fish merchants in Lau Fau Shan, resulting in the gang members being brought to justice, and earning the compliment of the merchants. Working in Pat Heung and Yuen Long divisions, the two second runners-up, PC Wong and PC Kwok, have made contributions to maintaining law and order in rural areas, and forging communication with villagers.
