||
Nearly 100 members of the International Police Association (IPA) Hong Kong Section and guests gathered at a dinner held in the Hong Kong Football Club, Happy Valley, on June 1 to celebrate the Section's 50th anniversary. In addition to enjoying the food and games on this jolly occasion, members and guests looked back on all the important moments and activity highlights of the Hong Kong Section over the past 50 years by viewing a slide show prepared by the Section's Executive Committee. Founded in 1950, IPA is the world's largest social organisation for police officers, with more than 300,000 members worldwide. The Hong Kong Section of the IPA, set up in 1960, is open to officers at all ranks, both serving and retired regular and auxiliary officers, as well as civilian staff. Its office is located on 3/F, Annex Block, Caine House, Arsenal Street, Wan Chai. Adhering to the motto - "Service Through Friendship", the IPA Hong Kong Section has cultivated friendship with police officers worldwide over the past 50 years. While playing host to members from different countries, the IPA Hong Kong Section makes arrangements for local members travelling overseas to enjoy the hospitality of IPA members. It has also hosted a "Friendship Week" to promote Hong Kong to IPA members around the world. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Hong Kong Section will stage another "Friendship Week" from October 31 to November 7, 2010, during which about 80 members from different countries will visit Hong Kong. With the help of members of the Hong Kong Section, these overseas visitors will tour around Hong Kong and visit the Force. Local IPA members have been urged to warmly receive their overseas guests. IPA Hong Kong Section constantly updates its website and keeps its members updated with e-mail on its latest news. To know more about IPA Hong Kong Section, surf www.ipa-hksar.com.
