Tai Po District's "Project Eyes and Ears", launched to support the Commissioner's Operational Priorities and four Strategic Directions, in particular the Strategic Directions of engaging the community and strengthening intelligence gathering, has moved on to Tai Po Division.

The project commenced in Sheung Shui Division in April this year when beat officers communicated direct with various external stakeholders. For example, shopkeepers, residents and villagers.

Tai Po Divisional Commander Ho Yun-sing introduced the project in a meeting with representatives of the Tai Po Merchants Association. In response, the representatives pledged to push the project forward in the capacity of "Project Champions".

Tai Po Division has selected "Project Pioneers" from each Patrol Sub-unit and Task Force Sub-unit, and produced souvenirs, promotion leaflets and name cards for use by the "Project Pioneers" during their visits to the local community. To publicise the project, the Division is broadcasting advertisements on a giant screen outside the Tai Po Complex.

The project was officially launched in Tai Po Division on June 7 when the "Project Champions", accompanied by the "Project Coordinators", called on shopkeepers in Tai Po Market to seek their support. At the initial stage, 32 shops took part in the project and came up with positive comments. In particular, Legislative Council Member and Tai Po District Council Chairman, Mr Cheung Hok-ming, also had favourable comment. "The public are very pleased to see more and more beat officers adopt a proactive approach to reach out to shopkeepers and residents. The project will strengthen local policing in the long run".
