They also show love and care |

About a fortnight before marching off from the Police College Wang Chuk Hang campus, 171 Probationary Inspectors and Recruit Police Constables had a practical lesson on July 17 on caring for the under-privileged and coming into contact with the community. Split into three teams and led by staff of the Foundation Training Centre, the trainees headed separately for two centres for the elderly and a hostel for patients with Down's syndrome to offer various voluntary services. Elderly Service Day
The trainees' training in community service on the day started with an "Elderly Service Day" in Tsz Wan Shan. They paid home visits to "hidden elderly" in Tsz Ching Estate and distributed gifts to them. They also cleaned up the homes of some elderlies, touching their hearts and earning their respect. Later the trainees threw a mini-party at the Buddhist Ching Hang Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and showed a video depicting the life on the Police College campus. Dressed up in different uniforms, they treated the elderly to a demonstration of foot drill, bringing the atmosphere to a climax. Talent Show
The second team of trainees staged a talent show at the Buddhist Foo Wong Hop Neighbourhood Centre for the Elderly in Kwai Chung, attracting over 300 participants. Through a drama, the trainees demonstrated Force values and vision in a bid to enhance elderly's understanding of, and boost their confidence in, the Force. Some Probationary Inspectors chatted with the elderly to drive home the importance of co-operation between citizens and the police. After presenting a programme of games and classic songs, the trainees distributed environmental shopping bags to underline the significance of environmental protection. Visit to Hostel
The third team of trainees warmed the hearts of inmates of the Hong Kong Red Cross Shun Lee Hostel, which takes care of patients with Down's syndrome and provides vocational training. The trainees showed their care and concern, spoke of their training and joined the inmates in games. Trainees'
Feedback
All the trainees consider that they have done "something very meaningful", and got "a great experience". And they have vowed to continue offering volunteer services after work.
