Police dogs to go through their paces

Police dogs will go through their paces to raise funds for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (SPCAHK) at the Sham Shui Po Sports Ground on October 31. This four-and-a-half hours event is the Police Dog Trial 2010 jointly organised by the Police Dog Unit and SPCAHK.

The trial will be open to the public for the first time for supporting charity, with admission tickets priced at $60. Five hundred VIP tickets, at $120 each, have been set aside, and for each VIP ticket sold, the organisers will donate a free ticket to families of limited means. All the proceeds will go to SPCAHK.

In the past, the Police Dog Unit regularly held dog skills competitions for police dog handlers to compete with each other and to hone their handling skills. In recent years, the unit was too busily involved in major events to continue with the police dog trial. This year, the trial is revived with a fund-raising element in support of SPCAHK.

Order forms are available at the SPCA website, www.spca.org.hk/dogtrial, and the Hong Kong Police website, www.police.gov.hk.
