The Summer Day Camp of Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) 2010/11 brought more than 120 mentees from 10 local tertiary institutions and police mentors at the Police College on August 15. Officiating at the event, which was one of the projects under the PMP Job Attachment, was Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chau Kwok-leung, who is the PMP Head Mentor.

Organised by Recruitment Division with the assistance of two PMP mentees, the day camp offered various exercises and activities, including a fitness awareness programme, touring of the Tactical Training Complex, exercises on team-building, and group discussions, all of which aimed at cementing the bond between mentors and mentees. The day camp also gave mentees a valuable opportunity to brush up their skills of leadership, solving problems and making analyses, as well as team spirit and physical fitness. They also benefited from coaching and sharing of working experiences by the mentors.

The highlight of the day camp was a sharing session conducted by Mr Chau; Deputy Head Mentor Pauline Ng; Woman Senior Superintendent (Human Resources) Josephine Lau; and Superintendent Ho Kin-man of Recruitment Division.

Six ex-mentees, who are working as Probationary Inspectors (PI), were also present to share with the mentees the challenges of their former PI training and jobs on the frontline as a junior inspector. All the mentees took the opportunity to ask the inspectors for advice on how to get equipped to rise to challenges in future.

Before conclusion of the day camp, both mentors and mentees took the view that the event afforded them a good opportunity to share common ideas. For the mentees, the event also enabled them to know better their own potentials, and to make better preparations for application for the post of PI.

Besides thanking the mentors for joining them in the day camp, the mentees also expressed gratitude to Recruitment Division for executing a well-planned event, and to Fitness Training Instructors and Weapon Training Division officers for offering guidance and instructions.

Finally, Recruitment Division extended special thanks to mentees Tse Ho-shing from City University of Hong Kong, and Yeung Pok-man from Hong Kong Polytechnic University for assisting in planning and running the day camp.

The mentees try to keep their physical fitness at a peak form
