An Anti-beach Theft Publicity Campaign was kicked off at Shek O Beach on August 6 to remind beach-goers to keep an eye on their belongings. The local community offered the drive their full support when members of the Eastern District Council, Eastern District Fight Crime Committee, Shek O Residents Association and Tai Long Wan Residents Association, as well as local community leaders joined Eastern District (EDIST) Deputy Commander Cheng Yiu-mo and Chai Wan Divisional Commander Tse Sau-kong in officiating at the kick-off ceremony.

Following the ceremony, the officiating party, accompanied by officers and Junior Police Call members, handed out souvenirs and copies of an anti-beach crime leaflet to beach-goers and nearby shop owners. Apart from "beach rats", the leaflet also calls on the owners to beware of thieves.
