A number of community organisations in Central and Western Districts have commended the Force for its outstanding performances in maintaining law and order outside the Legislative Council (LegCo) Chamber during the final debate and voting on the political reform package in June.

Singing the praises of the units that had policed the major public order event outside the LegCo Chamber are Central and Western District Council, Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee, Association of the Hong Kong Central and Western District, and Central and Western District Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary Presidents' Council. They jointly held a recognition ceremony at Central District JPC Club House last month to commend the units.

Among the officers attending the ceremony were Central District Commander Peter Morgan, Western District Commander Chu Ming-po, as well as officers-in-charge and representatives of Companies A, B, C, D, E, G and H of Police Tactical Unit and Quick Reaction Force. Each unit was presented with a plaque with an inscription - "Protect the Territory and Safeguard the People" - as well as souvenirs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Central and Western District Council, Mr Chan Tak-chor, said he was proud of the Force's excellent performance. "Police officers demonstrated solidarity, professionalism and efficiency in every operation, which secured law and order as well as safety in Hong Kong," he noted.

The convenor of the recognition ceremony and Chairman of the Association of the Hong Kong Central and Western District, Mr David Yip, said he was greatly impressed by the Force's efforts in maintaining law and order. "Thanks to officers' tenacity, patience, efficiency and professionalism in policing public order events, Hong Kong enjoys good public order and freedom of speech," he said.

In reply, Mr Morgan thanked the organisations for their support, encouragement and recognition, which, he noted, are a great motivation for officers.
