T KE engages elderly in road safety |
||
In support of the Strategic Direction on "Engaging the Community", Traffic Kowloon East (T KE) officers recently led senior members of the Kowloon East Road Safety Patrol (RSP) and 22 Elderly RSP Team members to distribute souvenirs and road safety leaflets to elderly pedestrians. This publicity event was focused on the old urban areas of Kwun Tong and Sau Mau Ping, especially the junction of Hong Ping Road and Shung Yan Street in Kwun Tong. T KE Senior Superintendent (SSP) Mark Foster, who accompanied the publicity party, pointed out that two fatal traffic accidents involving elderly female pedestrians had occurred at the junction this year, and the location was subsequently classified as a "Traffic Accident Blacksite" in accordance with Transport Department's criteria. Therefore, the promotion was aimed at delivering messages on using road-crossing facilities and complying with traffic rules to senior citizens. SSP Foster stressed that officers from his Enforcement & Control Division were working in partnership with the Road Safety Office in promoting road safety at traffic blacksites in Kowloon East Region. Said E&C Police Constable Mok Chuk-tung of the publicity event: "Besides taking daily stringent enforcement action against pedestrian offences, such as jay-walking, I was able to personally distribute publicity leaflets to the elderly for them to see the importance of road safety."
