University undergraduates Wong Wai-yee and Tong Hoi-yee have just spent their summer vacation helping out with various projects as Summer Interns at the Tai Po District Police Community Relations Office.

Studying Business Administration (Finance) at City University of Hong Kong, Wai-yee was very keen with her summer job because she plans to join the Force after her graduation. She helped out with outdoor activities, including those for JPC members, road shows of Project "Gen-Y", and a "mock court" of the Other Learning Experience Programme. "I've brushed up my communication skills by interacting with people from different walks of life", she said.

Attending the rehearsal of the Hang Seng Bank Award Ceremony, Wai-yee came to learn how to organise a large-scale function. Using her experience as a social work leader at university, she had suggested JPC Clubhouse host an Open Day for parents and students.

A graduate from the University of Hawaii with a BA Degree in Business Administration, Hoi-yee is expected to leave for Tsinghua University later this month to pursue a Master Degree in Journalism. She said her internship had given her a new perception of the Force, and recognised that "Hong Kong Police officers have put in a lot of effort and time in maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest and most stable cities in the world."

Working at the road shows of Project "GEN-Y", Hoi-yee interviewed students in secondary schools on their knowledge of dangerous drugs. "Many of the students do not have any idea of the destructive effects of drugs," she said, adding that she was glad to help schools in Tai Po create campuses free of drugs and crime. She took the view that Project "Gen-Y" is meeting a need in the District.

Finally, the two Summer Interns were grateful to Tai Po District Deputy Commander Lau Yat-hung for listening to their ideas and suggestions during weekly meetings.
