In a bid to acquaint students from the Mainland and overseas studying in Hong Kong with police services and crime prevention, the Police Community Relations Office of Sham Shui Po District held a seminar in Putonghua and English for about 100 students at City University of Hong Kong on August 27.

Police Community Relations Officer Kong Hok-lai, together with Cheung Sha Wan Division Patrol Sub-unit 4 Commander Wong Ching-han and Sham Shui Po Division Patrol Sub-unit 2 Commander Yung Kwing-kwan, introduced the ways to contact the police for assistance, rights and responsibilities of citizens, crime prevention measures and the laws of Hong Kong.

Overseas students from various parts of the world, being unfamiliar with the local situations, showed a great interest in the police's daily jobs and matters of law and order. The speakers therefore focused on the means to seek police assistance and the ways to prevent crime.

Owing to the differences in the legal systems amongst their countries, the students asked many questions at the end of the seminar, showing concern of local law-and-order and protection of personal belongings. Some students from the Mainland even showed a great interest in joining the Force and asked for the details of application and entry qualifications.

The students welcomed the seminar for giving them a better idea of policing and crime prevention work in Hong Kong.
