Henry Shield Race 2010 draws 65 teams |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Autumn, with cooler temperature, is the most ideal season for sports, and the Police Athletics Club (PAC) has organised a number of events for Force members. The first was the Henry Shield Relay Race 2010 held at the Aberdeen Reservoir Country Park area on October 5, attracting 65 teams of officers from 24 units. Although there were a few rain patches on that day, the participants' enthusiasm was never dampened. More than 200 runners and their supporters gathered at the Aberdeen Reservoir area long before Western District Deputy Commander Wise Choy signalled the start of the race. The first leg of the relay saw teams sprinting towards the Aberdeen Reservoir. In the 3.7-km course, the participants ran along hilly tracks, dams, slopes and water catchments to the relay zone to pass the relay stripe to the next leg. Chief Inspector Andy Naylor, one of the most outstanding runners, finished the first lap at 11 minutes 39 seconds, a new record of the Men Senior event this year. In team competition, Airport District pulled off a number of team trophies, including that for the fastest team. Director of Operations Hung Hak-wai, the relay race's guest of honour, praised the runners for their team spirit and pursuit of healthy lifestyle activities. Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung, New Territories North Regional Commander Austin Kerrigan, and Marine Regional Commander Chang Mo-sze were also on hand to present trophies and medals.
