To celebrate its 28th anniversary, the Hong Kong Police Painting and Calligraphy Club (HKPPCC) will stage an exhibition from February 18 to 20 at the Exhibition Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall.

The opening ceremony will be held on February 18, with Mr Xie Xiaoqing, Director-General of Police Liaison Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Mr Hao Tiechuan, Director-General of Publicity, Culture and Sports Department of the Liaison Office; Mr Lee Kam-yin, Chairman of Visual Arts Group, Hong Kong Arts Development Council; Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung; Director of Operations and Chairman of the Hong Kong Police Arts Council Hung Hak-wai; and Mr Wong Hurk-marn, Honorary Vice-President of the HKPPCC, officiating at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Established in 1983 as a registered non-profit-making organisation, the HKPPCC provides an opportunity for Force members and their families to practise painting and calligraphy as a character-building pastime with the aim of fostering their interest in visual arts and promoting a healthy lifestyle.  Experienced instructors provide some 20 painting and calligraphy courses each year for members.

With members artistic standard rising with time, the HKPPCC has participated in art events in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas. Each year, the HKPPCC also participates in community volunteer services and acts as joint hosts or sits on judging panels of art activities. Works of members have also been selected for calendars or covers of the Civil Service Newsletter.

At the invitation of the Kwai Tsing District Fight Crime Committee, the HKPPCC has contributed, for the second year, paintings and calligraphic works for production of red packets and Chinese New Year prints.  To mark the Year of the Rabbit, the Force has also chosen several exhibited works for Chinese New Year greeting cards.

The exhibition will display a collection of more than 100 Chinese paintings, brush calligraphic works, hard-tipped pen calligraphic works, western paintings and seal carving works. Apart from masterpieces of senior members, a number of artwork have been contributed by new members and HKPPCC instructors for the exhibition.  The exhibition will enable Force members to display their artistic qualities and healthy lifestyles to the public.
