To further promote Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM), "Easy Sport, Easy Job" has been adopted as the main theme of this year. Promotion activities will focus on easy sports or physical exercises. Baduanjin (the Eight-brocade Exercise) is the first sport to be introduced next month to help Force members maintain physical fitness and well-being by doing exercises regularly.

Origin of 'Baduanjin'

"Baduanjin", which is part of "Shaolin Yijinjing", has been developed in China for more than 800 years. "Baduanjin" consists of eight acts and is one of the traditional health and fitness exercises popular in Chinese society.

Effectiveness of 'Baduanjin'

'Baduanjin' is effective in preventing and reducing pain in the tendons and muscles of shoulders, back and waist. There are different postures and sections, and each section can be practised on its own and each targets a specific organ and health need. Consistent practice would benefit health.

Simple but effective

The movements of 'Baduanjin' are gentle, holistic and easy to practise. It is a simple sequence of movements suitable for almost anyone. 'Baduanjin' requires only little time and space and can be practised indoors or outdoors with no restrictions on equipment or clothing. 'Baduanjin' is particularly suitable for people living a hectic life.

Practice sessions

Starting from April 2, Personnel Services & Staff Relations (PS&SR) Branch will organise "Easy Sport, Easy Job - Baduanjin" play-in practice sessions on the grass pitch outside the indoor sports hall of Police Sports and Recreation Club every Saturday from 8.30 am to 9.30 am, with the help of experienced instructors. The session is free of charge and no advance registration is required. All Force members and their families are welcome.
