The Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) has reached the eighth year running in operation. With the continued assistance of the tertiary institutions participating in the programme, 132 students have been selected as mentees of the programme for 2011-12. A welcome gathering in the form of a garden party was held at the Police College on March 5. Speaking at the gathering, the Head Mentor, Deputy Marine Regional Commander Chung Hung-fung reminded the mentees to be a sincere and honest person with a strong will. He hoped they would, through activities of the programme and interaction with their mentors, realise the importance of righteousness in life. PMP was launched in 2004 to recruit full-time non-final year undergraduates of 10 local tertiary institutions. Fifty-two Mentors and 11 Assistant Mentors will lead the new mentees. The Mentors are experienced officers while the Assistant Mentors are junior inspectors, of whom some are former mentees. At the welcome gathering, the mentees and the mentors shared their life experiences and views on the activities of the programme. The mentees said they were excited about being selected for the PMP and looked forward to joining the Force after their graduation. Some mentees of PMP 2010-11 also joined the welcome gathering. Ivan Hui of CityU and Annie Poon of HKSYU acted as MCs of the gathering while Max Cheng of CityU, Joling Wong of HKU, Roxanne Lai of CUHK, Lau Kam-fai of HKUST and Fiona Kwai of HKIEd shared with the new mentees what they had learned from the programme and how they had prepared for the Probationary Inspector Selection Process.
