Used Clothing Collection Campaign sets another record |
||
The Used Clothing Collection Campaign 2010, a joint venture between the Force and the Salvation Army, has set another record - collecting 112 550 kilograms of clothing and used items from 20 collection points. This amount represents a rise of more than 11 percent over that of 2009. To show appreciation of the support by police units, police staff associations, Junior Police Officers' Married Quarters Residents' Associations, police clubs and management companies, a Handing-over cum Recognition Ceremony was held at Police Headquarters on February 25, with Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chau Kwok-leung and the General Secretary of the Salvation Army, Major Priscilla Nanlabi, officiating. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chau greatly appreciated the efforts of Force members, their families and the staff members involved in the collection campaign. He stressed that the Force's commitment to the collection campaign served the purposes of promoting green concept among Force members and encouraging them to optimise the use of resources. "At the same time, the campaign offers an opportunity to show our care to the less privileged," Mr Chau noted. Expressing their gratitude to the Force and Force members, Major Nanlabi and Salvation Army Financial Administrator, Ms Deirdre Ashe, presented souvenirs to representatives of the participating units for their contributions to the Salvation Army's fund-raising efforts. The yearlong Used Clothing Collection Campaign for 2011 has started, and Force members are encouraged to send their used clothing items to the collection points set up at Police Headquarters, New Territories South Regional Headquarters, Police Officers' Club, Police Sports and Recreation Club, Police Married Quarters at Police College, Old Bailey Street, Wong Tai Sin, Yau Mei Court, Ko Cheung Court, West Kowloon, Lai King, Tsing Yi, Kwai Fuk Court, Kwai Yung Court, Yuen Long and Sheung Shui.
