The Force hosted a visit by the Director-General of the Guangdong Border Defence Bureau (GDBDB), Mr Chen Huaishu, from March 15 to 18. The visit, the first by Mr Chen after taking up his current post in April last year, was aimed at bolstering co-operation and operational effectiveness on boundary security.

After paying a courtesy call on Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung, Mr Chen visited Operations Wing, the Command and Control Centres at Police Headquarters and Hong Kong Island Region, Police Tactical Unit Headquarters, Marine Region and Border District.

The Force maintains close partnership with GDBDB in matters of boundary security, cross-boundary crimes, illegal immigration, smuggling and illegal cross-boundary fishing. Concerted efforts were made to maintain security along the boundary, both on land and at sea, during the major events in recent years, e.g. Asian Games 2010 in Guangzhou, Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games, 2008 Olympic Games (Equestrian Events) and the 6th World Trade Organisation's Ministerial Conference held in Hong Kong in 2005.

The Force will continue to maintain close liaison and coordination with GDBDB, especially in boundary security for the Universiade Shenzhen 2011 in August this year.
