In a bid to strengthen ties with the local community, New Territories North (NTN) Region held a year-ender briefing on police work at NTN Regional Headquarters on February 25. NTN Regional Commander Austin Kerrigan was on hand to welcome local community leaders to the 2010 briefing, who included District Fight Crime Committee chairmen and members, District Council chairmen, chairmen of associations of heads of primary and secondary schools, and chairmen of parent-teacher associations. Also present at the briefing were representatives of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol and other government departments. The briefing started with NTN Deputy Regional Commander Chiu Wai-yin summing up the police work in 2010 and introducing the Region's operational priorities for 2011. After this, Senior Superintendent (SSP) (Crime) Leung Chin-wah, giving a briefing on the crime trend in 2010, reported that a 3.8 percent decrease in overall crime in NTN was achieved, thanks to the support and coordination of the local community. At the same time, SSP (Traffic) Ng Wing-kai introduced the Region's strategies to tackle illegal road racing, dangerous driving and drink driving. Wrapping up the briefing, Mr Kerrigan emphasised that the success of all strategies depended, to a large extent, on the general public's support. Thanking the community leaders for supporting his Region in the past year, Mr Kerrigan said he looked forward to their continued support in the years to come. ![]()
