Marine Regional Headquarters conducted a two-day familiarisation programme from March 15 to 16 for 12 newly graduated police constables and another 11 officers who have successfully applied for joining Marine Region.

Extending a warm welcome to the 23 new comers, Regional Commander Chang Mo-see encouraged them to get well prepared, both physically and mentally, for meeting the challenges ahead.

Having gone through the familiarisation programme, they have acquired knowledge of sea safety, structure of the Regional Command and Control Centre, daily work of the Trial and Maintenance Unit, core duties of the Small Boat Division, Marine Region's operation strategies and the Versatile Maritime Policing Response (VMPR).

New day/night cameras have been integrated with the existing radar system to create the central command system (CCS), which is supported by a fleet of smaller, faster, more versatile launches to maintain the integrity of the Boundary of Administration (BoA) and provide enhanced coverage of the waters of Hong Kong. A total of 17 Medium Patrol launches, 23 Divisional Fast Patrol Craft, and two barge Operating Platforms are key components of VMPR, which provides swift response to incidents at sea. The CCS and the smaller, faster vessels working with the other craft will allow the fleet to satisfy the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code and provide enhanced police service.
