May 6 was a memorable day for MLD
staff when College Director Kevin Woods received the ISO 9001:2008
Certificate from HKQAA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Lam, at a
presentation ceremony held at Police Headquarters. Mr Woods said after the presentation: "The ISO Award is a recognition of the tremendous efforts by the division to provide high quality training to serving officers. Last year, the division provided the three levels of Command Courses - Junior Command Course, Intermediate Command Course and Senior Command Course - for about 270 officers at ranks of Inspector to Superintendent. The courses enhance Force members' personal and professional qualities so that they can provide the highest standard of service to the community." Certification of MLD training courses is a major achievement, reassuring local and international institutions that the training services provided by the Police College have reached the highest standard as certified by an independent and globally recognised professional body. Pursuit of excellence
The award of the ISO Certificate demonstrates not only the commitment of the MLD staff but also their increasing awareness of quality management. Superintendent Steven Tait said the certification process had enriched his knowledge of quality assurance and management. "I believe we all found the experience valuable and gained a solid foundation to ensure we continue to develop quality training courses," he added. The successful ISO Certifications of Junior Police Officer Development Learning Division in 2003, Police Operational Learning Division in 2009 and MLD in 2011 underlines the strong determination and relentless pursuit of excellence for the professional training services delivered by the Police College. MLD is currently conducting a Major Review of Command Courses with the aim of improving the quality of the three levels of courses and striving for excellence on leadership, context of policing and organisational effectiveness. It is expected that the new Senior Command Course will be piloted in November this year. |
