The Force's recruitment target for the financial year 2011/12 is 920 officers, including 170 Probationary Inspectors (PI) and 750 Recruit Police Constables (RPC). It aims to recruit people who possess the competences required of a police officer, share the same values of the Force and endeavour to become a professional police officer to serve the community.

To attract more candidates with the right calibre to join the Force, Recruitment Division (RECDIV) conducted three sessions of police recruitment seminar at Police College on May 28.

Each session consisted of four elements, namely introduction of selection processes of Probationary Inspector or Recruit Police Constable, sharing of interview skills, physical fitness test and on-site initial screening, (including height and weight measurements and eyesight test).

"This particular seminar is a new initiative of RECDIV. Applicants can receive 'one-stop service' in about two hours. They are not just able to obtain the latest information on selection processes, do's and don'ts for interviews and better understanding of the required standard of physical fitness, they can also undergo initial screening on the spot. The whole process was both efficient and effective in handling hundreds of applications in one go,' said RECDIV Superintendent Simon Ho.

To get wider publicity coverage, multi-media strategy was adopted to appeal to potential applicants. On this, RECDIV Chief Inspector Francis Cheung elaborated: "We placed advertisements on newspapers and Internet. And with the help of Police Community Relations Offices, local universities and uniformed corps, we attracted over 560 young people to the seminar."

Having passed the initial screening on the spot, RPC applicants were immediately arranged to attend physical fitness test on June 1 while PI applicants will sit for written examination later this month.

Recruitment Seminar has proved to be attractive to job seekers, in particular, fresh graduates and those looking for a breakthrough in their career development. It has not only enhanced selection processes but also projected the Force's professional image.
