The New Territories South (NTS) CID Night cum NTS Best District Investigation Team (DIT) Award 2011 presentation ceremony was held at Police Sports and Recreation Club on the evening of May 13, with NTS Regional Commander Tse Shu-chun presenting the award. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tse told the gathering: "According to crime statistics, the number of serious crime in NTS Region has remained at a low level, which has been brought about by your efforts to make life peaceful and enjoyable for the community in NTS. I read every letter of appreciation from the local community for your efforts and professional performances." Mr Tse then referred to the new Crime Investigation Unit Model recently launched by the Force. He pointed out that the model represented the determination of the Force to back up officers so that they would come up with better job performances. Congratulating this year's best DIT, Mr Tse said though only one DIT was nominated for the award in each district, he wanted to express his heartfelt thanks to those teams which had missed the award for the contributions they made in the past year. Following his speech, Mr Tse, together with Tsuen Wan District Commander Lam Man-wing, NTS Senior Superintendent (Crime) Ma Chi-kin, Kwai Tsing Deputy District Commander Ho Ming-sun, Shatin Deputy District Commander Chan Fung-hau, Airport District Commander Siu Chak-yee and Lantau District Commander Ho Yuen-ha, proposed a toast to over 300 officers from various crime units in NTS for their success and health. Addressing the officers, Mr Ma confided to them that he is fully aware of the hardship of CID work and as such he supports the 14 new recommendations put forward by the Force. He noted: "Since becoming a detective inspector in 1985, I've witnessed the changes in society and the public's increasing expectations of the Force. Therefore you have to keep abreast of times and discharge your duties with professionalism and great care." He also reminded officers to enhance communication and understanding among themselves, which, he stressed, would be of great benefits to their jobs. The NTS Best DIT Award Competition is an annual event. After an intense competition this year, DIT 1 of Kwai Tsing District won the award. The other nominated DITs were presented with certificates. During an animated discussion on the 14 recommendations at the reception, the officers took a positive view of the measures suggested by the Force management and the Force Study Team on Recruitment and Retention of Crime Officers at District Level. Detective Inspector Yuen Shing-hei of Airport District was the coordinator and MC for the reception. He commented: "The reception was very successful, fully displaying the crime stream's fine tradition and team spirit."
