As a joint effort with Hong Kong Tramways Limited and Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong Island) to arouse public awareness of pedestrian and tram safety on Hong Kong Island, Road Safety Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI) kicked off the "Tram and Pedestrian Safety Campaign 2011" at Belcher Bay Park, Western District, May 7. Officiating the ceremony were the Managing Director of Hong Kong Tramways Limited, Mr Bruno Charrade, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (Hong Kong & Island Region), Mr Edward Wong Kai-chun, and Acting Senior Superintendent Traffic Hong Kong Island Chow Wai-tak. The programme included playing of musical instruments, singing, taiji demonstration and interactive games that attracted hundreds of people to the venue. The highlight of the day came when a special guest, "Road Safety Guard", joined the event. After the kick-off ceremony, the officiating guests, Road Safety Guard and Elderly Road Safety Ambassadors boarded an open-top antique tram and two specially designed Road Safety Trams to spread road safety messages at tram stops, busy pedestrian crossings and traffic accident black spots in Central. Acting SSP Chow believed the event had disseminated a clear message to the public on the important of road safety, adding that the Road Safety Trams travelling between Western and Eastern Districts had also helped enhance public awareness of road safety. ![]()
