The "Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM) Carnival 2011", organised by Personnel Services and Staff Relations Branch in conjunction with Police sports and arts clubs, drew a large turnout of Force members at Police Sports and Recreation Club on May 22. Carrying the slogan of "Easy Sport, Easy Job", this annual event aimed at promoting a culture of doing exercises regularly and leading a healthy lifestyle among Force members and making them more aware of physical fitness and health management. Owing to hoisting of Red Rainstorm Warning, most of the game booths were cancelled and a wet weather plan was activated to move outdoor performances indoors. However, these arrangements did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participants and the performers. On the contrary, they helped create a cohesive and warm atmosphere throughout the day. All competitors tried their best in sporting events, Indoor Rowing Competition and Physical Fitness Challenge. The sporting events were brought to a climax when the final was held to the cheering of supporters of the competing teams. More than 3 000 regular, auxiliary and civilian officers and their families were treated to a variety of performances by police sports and arts clubs, Police Choir, Police dogs, Police Band, Police Guitar Folk Song Club, Police Pop Music Club, Police Harmonica Club with Children's Choir and the Chinese Orchestra of the Police Chinese Culture Club. In addition, there were demonstrations of martial arts, taekwondo and karate, as well as a magic show. Equally popular were the health checks and medical consultation provided by medical professionals and Chinese medical practitioners on cholesterol, glucose, lung function, glaucoma and osteoporosis. The carnival provided different activities not only on physical health but also mental health and financial prudence. Carelinker, Positive Mental Health and Prudent Financial Management booths were set up to disseminate related messages. The winners of the Prudent Family and Personal Financial Management Poster Design and Creative Slogan (Children Category) competitions received their prizes from Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chau Kwok-leung. Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung, Senior Directorate Group members, Formation Commanders and senior officers turned out in force to support the carnival and watched three PHM Ambassadors being appointed for a very important mission. The Ambassadors are Ms Chan Lim-chee, an elite badminton player and medal winner at the Olympic Games (1988), Mr Lee Chi-wo, leading triathlete in Hong Kong and the 2008-2010 Asian Year End Ranking No. 1 triathlete, as well as Mr Kenneth Wong, a Yoga Master. The Force Colours Award Presentation Ceremony and a Flag Presentation Ceremony of 2011 World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) were held at the carnival before 300 guests and athletes. Twenty-five officers were presented with the Force Colours Award for Sports while 10 officers received Award for Arts as recognition of their achievements. In addition, Constable Ng Tai-wai was awarded the Watson Cup as outstanding athlete of the year and New Territories North Regional Headquarters was awarded the Purdon Shield for its overall outstanding achievement in sports in the year. The WPFG Flag Presentation Ceremony provided one of the highlights of the carnival when CP handed Force Colours to the Head of the Force delegation to WPFG, Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung, who is Chairman of the Police Sports Council. The Deputy Head is Chief Superintendent Li Kin-fai of Police Public Relations Branch, who is Chairman of the Organising Committee for the participation in WPFG. The WPFG will be held in New York, USA, from August 26 to September 5. |
