Mr Victor Li, Chairman of the Joint Management Committees, presented
certificate of award for the Providence Foundation Medical Scholarship
for Year One Medical Student.
In addition, Mr Li and Mr Ernest Tsang, Chairman of the Joint
Investment Advisory Boards, presented certificates of award for
Outstanding Academic Performance (for form six entry).
Donors to the two education trusts and members of the Joint Management
Committees and the Joint Investment Advisory Boards joined the
scholarship-winning students and their families at the presentation
ceremony.
Seventh presentation
This was the seventh presentation ceremony since the scholarship award
was set up in 1999/00. In the past years, over 700 police children were
awarded scholarships and many of them studied medicine, engineering,
accountancy and business. After their graduation, they became
professionals in various sectors or the fields of business and
education.
Extending his heartfelt thanks to the parents of the students for their
devotion to their children's education, CP said they had groomed a
younger generation to become masters of tomorrow for Hong Kong. Their
dedication showed that members of the Force attached importance to
their children's education and the provision of a good family
environment. "The Force has all along been promoting the importance of
family education. Undoubtedly, the remarkable academic performances of
your children are attributable to your good parenting," he told the
parents.
CP hoped that the students, as police children, would be proud of what
their parents are doing to serve the community. He encouraged them to
equip themselves and enhance their knowledge through lifelong learning.
CP also extended sincere thanks to Mr Li, Mr Ernest Tsang and committee
members for giving professional advice on management and investment of
the two education trusts, adding that their support and commitment to
the trusts had made possible the optimum utilisation of resources. CP
also thanked the donors from the community and the Force for their
support for the trusts.
Note of thanks
A student representative, Brian Lee, thanked the Force for providing
him with financial assistance to fulfil his dream of studying chemistry
at the University of Cambridge. He encouraged police children to make
the best of scholarship to participate in exchange programmes or
leadership training to broaden their horizons and cope with the rapid
changes in society.
Finally, CP presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr Jacob Tsang,
former Chairman of the Joint Investment Advisory Boards, for his
invaluable contribution to the investment and maintenance of the assets
of the education trusts during his tenure of chairmanship.
The two education trusts have in over 40 years benefited thousands of
police children with scholarships, bursaries and grants. Donations from
the community and Force members are important sources of income for the
trusts. Force members may join a Voluntary Contribution Scheme by
making a monthly donation, which will be a stable and continuous source
of income for the trusts.
Alternatively, Force member may make a one-off donation with cheque, to
which an official receipt will be issued. Donation of $100 or more is
tax deductible. Please call Personnel Services and Staff Relation
Branch at 2860-3242 for
details of making donations to the education trusts.
