In a bid to forge closer ties with all sectors of the local community, New Territories North (NTN) Regional Commander Austin Kerrigan hosted a Mid-year Review Briefing at NTN Regional Headquarters on August 17. About 70 community leaders attended the briefing, including District Council chairmen, District Fight Crime Committee chairmen and members, and chairmen of associations of heads of primary and secondary schools. Representatives of the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, other government departments and non-government organisations were also present.

The briefing started with a review of the Region's operational priorities for 2011. After this, Crime Regional Headquarter reported on the crime situation in the first half of this year and summed up police action and achievements against triad activities, dangerous drugs, quick cash crimes and debt collection activities.

The NTN Regional Crime Prevention Office also introduced the progress of "Project Sunflower" in promoting family harmony, and measures to prevent and tackle sexual offences.

The briefing provided an opportunity for local community leaders to communicate directly with frontline commanders. Mr Kerrigan thanked the leaders for their support and co-operation. Looking ahead, he stressed that NTN would continue to adhere to its  operational priorities and looked forward to working closely with the community to maintain law and order.
