Kwun Tong District and Sau Mau Ping District have adopted the approach of multi-agency co-operation to reduce fatal and serious traffic accidents. Recently the two police districts teamed up with the Traffic and Transport Committee of Kwun Tong District Council to launch a large-scale publicity campaign. Leaflets and souvenirs were distributed at traffic black spots and pedestrian crossings to make pedestrians more aware of road safety and the need to observe traffic regulations. During the campaign, four model pedestrians and drivers were selected for their awareness of observing traffic regulations and driving attitude. To get maximum publicity for the campaign, the two districts will hold the "Kwun Tong District Road Safety Carnival" at Hong Ning Road Recreation Ground later this month, where the model pedestrians and drivers will be honoured. In view of the high percentage of elderly pedestrians being killed in traffic accidents, a series of seminars on road traffic safety had also been held at elderly centres in the two districts to promote pedestrian safety among the elderly. |
