In order to strengthen the co-operation with Korea, the Force's important strategic partner in Asia-Pacific Region, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung led a delegation to visit Seoul from October 9 to 12. The delegation members comprised Acting  Assistant Comissioner (Operations) Cheung Tak-keung, Commercial Crime Bureau Senior Superintendent Kwok Ho-fai and Liaison Bureau Inspector Lam Ho-ming.

Besides paying a courtesy call on Mr Park Chong-jun, Deputy Commissioner of the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA), Mr Tsang also met with senior officers of KNPA and discussed mutually concerned issues.

At the meetings, Mr Tsang emphasised the importance of maintaining close relationship with neighbouring law enforcement agencies and reached a consensus with KNPA to enhance co-operation on police work and personnel training.  Areas of co-operation include organisation of major international conferences, management of public events, handling of technology crime, combatting organised trans-boundary criminal activities, and promotion of exchanges and training for police officers of both parties.

Mr Park said Korea would be facing major challenges on anti-terrorism and security when the "2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit" is held in Korea next year. Both parties agreed that the Force will send officers to Seoul to observe the event.

During their visit, the delegates also inspected the anti-riot drills and equipment of the Seoul Metropolitan Mobile Police, in addition to visiting Cyber Terror Response Centre and Emergency Command Centre.

By consolidating co-operation with his counterparts in Asia-Pacific Region, Mr Tsang hopes to raise the professionalism of law enforcement officers to effectively combat trans-boundary crimes.
