Force to co-host 6th Symposium on Police Studies |
||
The 6th Symposium on Police Studies of the Strait cum Hong Kong and Macao will be held in Hong Kong from October 19 to 21, with "Cross-boundary Economic Crime Prevention and Police Co-operation" as its theme. This is the second time for the Force to co-host this symposium in Hong Kong for distinguished guests, delegates and scholars from the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao to exchange views on policing trends and developments of related subjects. The symposium will focus on a broad spectrum of law enforcement and management issues facing contemporary policing, such as policing and enforcement actions against economic crime, new criminal activities on the Internet, information technology crime, quality and management of law enforcement agencies, general police studies and police-related research. The symposium, which is championed by the Police Association of China (PAC), has been held annually since its inception in 2006. The previous five symposiums were held in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macao, Taipei and Suzhou, providing a platform for police officers and scholars from the four jurisdictions to share their achievements in police-related research. The previous symposiums had enhanced communication, exchange and co-operation among the four jurisdictions. They also had helped raise policing standards in all four jurisdictions, and forged close ties and co-operation in police studies. Preparatory work for the symposium, which involved considerable planning, saw the setting up of a Force Steering Committee headed by Police College Director Kevin Woods, and two Liaison Sub-committees each headed by a Police College Deputy Director, and six Subordinate Working Groups. To ensure effective communication between the committees and working groups, and to act as a bridge between the Force and the PAC, a Symposium Secretariat with one superintendent, two senior inspectors and two constables was also formed. Opening on October 20
The PAC President, Mr Tian Qiyu, will officially open the symposium on October 20 in the Police Headquarters Multi-purpose Hall (MPH), together with Secretary for Security Ambrose S K Lee, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung, Director of Immigration Chan Kwok-ki, and delegation heads from Taiwan and Macao. From the more than 100 academic papers received, which have been evaluated rigorously by a judging panel of representatives from all four jurisdictions, 61 will be included in symposium proceedings and 29 will be presented by the authors at the seven plenary sessions on October 20 and 21. The symposium not only benefits the Force in enhancing understanding and collaboration with academies and other law enforcement agencies across the Strait, but also provides an excellent learning opportunity for Force members. For Force members to share the fruits of the dedicated efforts in practical policing research, and to enhance their knowledge, an invitation has been extended to them to join the 2nd to 5th sessions of the symposium, which will be held concurrently on the afternoon of Thursday, October 20, in the MPH on 10/floor and Auditorium on 8/floor, Arsenal House, PHQ. Applications from officers through the Training Management System (TMS) or via PEN are being processed by the Symposium Secretariat, and those successful will be allocated places in one of the above venues for both sessions and informed by TMS about one week before the symposium. Live broadcast in Auditorium
The symposium proceedings in MPH will be conducted in Putonghua with English/Putonghua simultaneous interpretation. To provide wider coverage of the programmes of the symposium for Force members, the opening and closing ceremonies and sessions 1st, 6th and 7th held in MPH, will be broadcast live to the Auditorium on the morning of October 20 (Thursday) and October 21 (Friday). Officers interested in viewing the ceremonies and sessions in the Auditorium are welcome. No prior registration is required and seats would be available on a first-come-first-served basis. No simultaneous interpretation will be provided on these occasions. In the event of inclement weather, there will be no coverage in the Auditorium because it will be used for group photo-taking. ![]() ![]() |
