The Aberdeen Reservoir Country Park was teeming with nearly 300 runners as well as crowds of spectators for this year's Henry Shield Relay Race on October 4. Over 28 units fielded a total of 71 teams of runners for the event, which went smoothly in early autumn breeze and a jolly atmosphere. In this relay race, runners were split into four-man teams, three-lady teams and three -former police member teams to vie for seven categories of prizes. At the starting point, runners tried to secure the best positions for a quick start. When they were ready, the member running the 1st leg of each team set off as Western District Commander Chu Ming-po fired the gun to signal the start of the race. During the race, Director of Operations Hung Hak-wai was on hand to join supporters in cheering on the runners at the designated handing over zone, and later presented trophies to the winning teams. The title of Men's Fastest Leg Open went to Police Constable (PC) Lai Hok-yan from Counter-terrorism Unit, last year's title-holder, with a notable time of 11 minutes 53 seconds. PC Tsui Wai-yuen and Sergeant Leung Yat, both from Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU HQ), captured the titles of Men's Fastest Leg Senior and Master respectively. In the women's fastest leg, SPC Wong Siu-ping from Sha Tin District captured the title again this year, with a new record of 13 minutes 36 seconds. Wan Chai District, Emergency Unit Kowloon East and Criminal Intelligence Bureau retained the titles of categories A, B and D events respectively for the second year in a row, each with a time of less than 56 minutes. In Category E event, PTU HQ completed the race at an impressive time of 48 minutes 58 seconds, capturing the "Overall Fastest Team" title. The race successfully promoted healthy lifestyle and team spirit, and underscored officers' passion for sports. For the event's success, the Chairman of the Police Athletics Club has thanked helpers from the Police Football Referee Club, Physical Training Instructors from Police College and PTU HQ for their support and assistance for the race.
