Police graduates had learned to uphold a high standard of discipline and work as a team to fulfil duties after completing stringent training, Executive Committee Chairman of the Community Chest of Hong Kong, Mrs Margaret Leung, said on February 4 while inspecting a passing-out parade by 20 probationary inspectors and 145 recruit constables at Police College.

Mrs Leung encouraged them to serve the community with passion and devotion and reminded them they were not working alone but were members of a strong team.

She noted that the Force worked at the front to fight crime and protect public safety, adding that although frontline officers from patrol teams, emergency units and Police Tactical Unit (PTU) were more visible to the general public, they were supported by a strong police team behind.

"In the banking industry, we also realise that both frontline and support staff are equally important in serving customers. Apart from the efforts by the individuals, team spirit is also very important as any mistake may cause serious consequences," she said.

Mrs Leung recalled that, three years ago, she and 130 volunteers participated in the "PTU Headquarters Charity Open Day" to take care of 1 200 underprivileged children and the elderly.

The event was organised by the Community Chest and the Force. "It was an eye-opening experience as police officers showed their skills in handling riots, rescuing hostages and subduing suspects. Though it was only a drill, all officers concentrated on their work and demonstrated their team spirit in a professional manner."
