To enhance the co-operation and mutual understanding between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, Security Bureau and Border District hosted the 2012 Border District Spring Reception at Police Officers' Club on January 6. The Deputy Secretary for Security, Mr Ngai Wing-chit, and Director of Operations Hung Hak-wai attended the function as guests of honour. Also present at the reception were around 200 guests from the HKSAR Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The Mainland guests came from the various departments of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, including Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Guangdong Provincial Border Defence Bureau, 6th Brigade of People's Armed Police, Shenzhen Border Defence Sub-bureau, Shenzhen Exit/Entry Frontier Inspection Station, Shenzhen Public Security Bureau, Shenzhen Port Administration Office, Shenzhen Customs Department, Shenzhen Municipal River Regulation Office and Guangshen Railway Company. The other HKSAR bureaus and departments represented at the reception were Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, Transport and Housing Bureau, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department and Transport Department. Speaking at the reception, Mr Hung thanked the law enforcement agencies of both governments for maintaining law and order, fighting cross-boundary crime and stemming out illegal immigration and smuggling, especially for the outstanding performance in maintaining security at all boundary crossings throughout 2011, particularly during the 2011 Universiade held in Shenzhen. He expected that the law enforcement agencies in Hong Kong and Shenzhen would have to handle more complicated and challenging tasks after the launching of a trial scheme to introduce ad-hoc quotas for cross-boundary private cars. Nevertheless, the Force would further enhance co-operation with other law enforcement agencies in Hong Kong and Shenzhen to safeguard public safety and contribute to the social stability and prosperity of Hong Kong and the Mainland. Ms Tang Lixia from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office expressed gratitude for the support and assistance given by HKSAR Government departments for the Universiade. She also highly complimented the law enforcement agencies of both governments for their professionalism and close collaboration in maintaining law and order. |
