Last year, the Other Learning Experience (OLE) Programme launched by Tai Po District (TPDIST), "Anti-drug Fighter Elite Scheme", has received favourable comments from the schools participating in the programme. This year, with the encouragement of school teachers, TPDIST has kicked off the second round of the programme for the secondary schools in Tai Po. The OLE programme is being operated under the banner of the Tai P0 Junior Police Call (JPC), with the aim of enhancing students' understanding of the different stages of the criminal procedure system that an offender would go through. Students are shown how a "criminal" is arrested and subsequently brought to a mock court to receive sentencing. The scale of the programme this year is bigger than that of last year, with about 60 students from four secondary schools participating. The kick-off event, "Arresting Operation", was held on November 12 last year. The students first visited Tai Po Police Station to get familiarised with police work by touring the Report Room, Video Interview Room, Identification Room and Station Cell, guided by police officers. They also took a closer look at the beat equipment and fingerprint-taking tool, and attended a briefing on police authority and the laws related to juvenile crimes. After the briefing, the students proceeded to TP JPC Club House and participated in four simulation exercises, including those related to trafficking in and possession of dangerous drugs as well as theft from vehicle. In each exercise, the students played the role of police officers and planned operations against different offences in order to arrest the "culprits", who were played by police officers. "Police work is more challenging than I imagine," a student said of his views of the simulation exercises. ![]() |
