2 000 runners celebrate Dowman Road Race 60th Anniversary

Police Athletics Club (PAC) has presented one of the major events of 2012 - Dowman Road Race, to mark the race's 60th Anniversary. More than 2 000 regular, auxiliary and civilian staff members in the Force and elite runners from other disciplined services took part in the anniversary race and shared the happiness of this memorable event on January 28 at Pak Tam Chung, Sai Kung.

In this feature race, Police Constable (PC) Lai Hok-yan from Counter Terrorism Response Unit (CTRU) captured the championship of Men's Open again this year while Woman PC Law Suet-wai from the same unit came first in the Women's Open. WSPC Wong Siu-ping from Crime New Territories South set a new record of 50 min 44 sec for Women's Senior, Sergeant Wun Yiu-ki from Airport Security Unit broke an old record of Men's Master II with 48 min 17 sec.

Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Headquarters once again won the title of the Specialist Team Relay while Emergency Unit Kowloon East and CTRU won the Formations Relay and Ladies Relay respectively.

The Fung Siu-yuen Cup and the title of the Oldest Disciplined Officer Completing the Race went to Kwun Tong District Commander Chau Cho-kei and Regional Commander New Territories South Tse Shu-chun respectively.

To mark the 60th Anniversary, the officiating guests and runners put their signatures in a special banner before the race started.  In addition, a mini exhibition was mounted at the venue on the history and the transformation of the Dowman Road Race over the years. The 50th anniversary booklet, previous Dowman trophies and souvenirs were also on display as part of the exhibition.

As part of the celebration programme, runners who completed the race within one hour and 45 minutes were awarded a specially designed Commemorative Medal.

PAC Chairman, Chief Superintendent Edwin Lam thanked helpers from the Police Football Referee Club, Physical Training Instructors from Police College and PTU, Auxiliary Medical Services as well as individual volunteers for their support and assistance for the event.
