Police Dog Handlers proud of their loyal partners

To foster a sense of belonging among its staff and interest in police dog handling, Police Dog Unit (PDU) has organised an essay competition under the Police Staff Motivation Scheme. In the contest, Dog Handlers were invited to share with Force members and the general public stories of their loyal partners.

Police Constable (PC) Chan Wai-ching of Emergency Unit New Territories South won the competition with a touching story about her partner, Patrol Dog Katre, a Malinois locally bred by PDU in 2006. Katre was forced to "retire" after falling ill, but fortunately she was adopted and well looked after by PC Chan in her "early retirement".

PC Ng Kit-ha of Mong Kok Police District and PC Mui King-wai of Sham Shui Po District captured the second and third places respectively. Four other officers, Sergeant Hung Fi-lok, SPC Lo Kai-chung, PC Chan Wan-lung and Ng Tim-wa, each won a certificate of merit.

Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung presented awards on February 9.

The essay on Katre, in Chinese, is published in the Chinese section of OffBeat.
