'Shearing' for charity |
||
To support "Operation Santa Claus", jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong, Emergency Unit Kowloon East (EU KE) held a charity "Dawn to Dust Walkathon" last December 16. The event started at 6:30 am and each of a 24-member relay team took turns to walk from Lion Rock Pavilion at Shatin Pass Road, Fei Ngo Shan, to a lookout point at Jat's Incline and then back to the Lion Rock Pavilion, within the given time of 30 minutes for the 3.5 km-course. The temperature at Fei Ngo Shan that morning was as low as 11°C but had little effect on the event. EU KE Superintendent (SP) Alan Crowther was the first relay walker leaving the starting point. In a bid to encourage his colleagues to dip deep into their pockets for charity, he had his head and moustache shaved, but only on February 13 after Director of Management Services and Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) visited EU KE and Operations KE. It is of note the moustache had become a beard by that time after SP Crowther took annual leave in Nepal. The "shearing" was undertaken by Alibarber. Some EU KE members voluntarily joined in, further livening up the event after taking just 15 minutes to complete the "walk". The event ended successfully at 6:30 pm with the target fundraising amount met. ![]() |
