Over the years, the Force, with the support and hard work of its officers, has transformed from a para-military team to a professional law enforcement agency dedicated to providing quality services, said retiring Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) (ACP SQ) Wong Fook-chuen on February 24.

Addressing officers of the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Zulu Company as Reviewing Officer at their passing-out parade, Mr Wong said: "I've witnessed this transformation during my 33-year service in the Force, especially during the past few years in Service Quality Wing. Every one of you has contributed to this transformation."

Mr Wong, who served as Commander of the PTU Charlie Company 19 years ago, pointed out that PTU training had made great strides and become more intense and diversified, adding that this vast improvement underscored the Force's motto: "To Serve with Pride and Care". "Nowadays, the aim of PTU training is to motivate the trainees to fully develop their potentials so as to get better equipped and prepared to take on the different challenges of police work," he noted.

In conclusion, he told the officers: "In the coming year, the Force will be put to the test, including those related to the Chief Executive Election, the Legislative Council Election and celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, all of which will require a lot of professionally trained police officers to maintain public order. I can't think of any team better suited for this major task than you."
