In the light of the findings of the Force's Training Needs Analysis Study on Putonghua Training conducted in 2010, and having regard to the large framework of the Force as well as the large variety of police duties involved, provision of quickly accessible and convenient Putonghua online tools is considered the most effective way to help frontline officers improve their Putonghua proficiency for work in a short time.  The Police College has therefore decided to launch the following four modules of Putonghua training tools in two phases in 2012 and 2013:

•    Module I- Difficult street names and places.

•    Module II- Job-related vocabulary enhancement.

•    Module III- Frequently used sentences (for Patrol Sub-unit, Divisional Investigation Team, and Report Room duties).

•    Module IV- Colloquial Putonghua expressions.

Following completion of production work, Modules I and II have been uploaded to POINT.

In addition to providing accurate pronunciation of more than 1 100 police work vocabularies, these Putonghua self-learning tools also have a user-friendly search function.  Apart from searching by inputting vocabularies, users can also search by Police Districts and Police Work Categories for Modules I and II respectively.  These functions will help users identify street names and places within their Police Districts and look up job-related vocabularies more easily.

By visiting Learning Development Support Centre's website, officers will find the self-learning tools very useful for discharging daily duties in Putonghua.  The website can be accessed via the following path:

POINT > Formation Sites > Police College > Learning Development Support Centre > Language Resource Bank
