WTSDIST launches School Liaison Seminar |
||
In view of growing public concern about juvenile delinquency, Wong Tai Sin District (WTSDIST) has rolled out an initiative under its Action Plan for 2012 - a quarterly School Liaison Seminar - as part of its ongoing efforts to deal with this problem. At the invitation of WTSDIST, 41 secondary school headmasters and discipline masters as well as representatives from Social Welfare Department and non-government organisations (NGOs) attended the seminar at Kowloon City Community Hall on April 18 to share experiences in handling the misbehaviours of youngsters and secondary students in the district. At the seminar, they also strengthened communication and networking. Welcoming the participants to the seminar, WTSDIST Commander David Gunton emphasised that his District had been adopting a multi-agency and community-based approach to deal with juvenile delinquency. He hoped the seminar would provide opportunities for developing a partnership between police and key stakeholders in the interests of young persons. Also speaking at the seminar, Assistant District Commander (Crime) Chow Tak-choi introduced the four-pronged approach WTSDIST would adopt in an effort to achieve the objectives of the project through prevention, deterrence, education and rehabilitation. The teachers and social workers welcomed the seminar as having provided them a better idea of WTSDIST's strategies on youth. Representatives of the NGOs providing outreach social work services expressed interest in inviting WTSDIST officers to attend their meetings to address youth problems. ![]() |
