In an effort to alert young job-seekers to summer job scams, Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) teamed up with Labour Department in holding a seminar at Hong Kong Cultural Centre on April 19 for about 50 trainees of the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme and the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme. During the seminar, CCB Inspector (IP) Amy Kwok highlighted the modus operandi of common job scams, and reminded the trainees that fraudsters usually offered jobseekers purported job opportunities with unreasonably high remuneration. The conmen then lured the jobseekers to pay upfront fees to secure the jobs, or to pay so-called beauty packages or training courses. But eventually the offers of lucrative jobs never materialised, resulting in monetary loss for the jobseekers. IP Kwok advised the trainees not to produce their bankcards or pay any upfront fees when attending job interviews. Before signing any contract, they should read the terms and conditions carefully. IP Kwok also reinforced her messages by playing anti-crime video clips and distributing souvenirs to the audience. ![]() |
