Officers complete training in Traffic Accident Reconstruction |
||
The Accident Investigation Working Group of Traffic Branch and the Government Laboratory jointly conducted a five-day Forensic Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Course between April 23 and 27 for 20 Regional Traffic Accident Investigation Officers. The course was very intensive in nature and covered a variety of subjects taught by the Government Chemist, including contact evidence examination, skid and yaw marks, and use of physics to find out how a vehicle collision has occurred. One of the course attendants, Senior Inspector (SIP) (Administration & Support) Lee Pui-han of Traffic Branch, described the course as "scene of crime training" for traffic officers, and likened their roles to those of detectives. Another attendant, SIP Lam Chi-hang of Accidents Investigation Traffic Kowloon West, said: "The course was very well designed and coordinated. I've learned from the Government Chemist how to gather, preserve, and interpret the evidence found at a traffic accident scene and what I can contribute to forensic examination and investigation." At the conclusion of the course, the 20 officers took a written examination. They will be presented with a certificate to certify their successful completion of the course. Their training will also be recorded on PICS to show they have received training in Traffic Accident Reconstruction. The course will be run on an annual basis for more traffic officers. ![]() |
