To recognise the good performance and contribution of District Investigation Team (DIT), and in line with Commissioner's Strategic Direction of "Supporting Frontline Units", Kowloon East (KE) Region has introduced a Best District Investigation Team Award for the first time.

A holistic and comprehensive selection criterion with focus on quality of investigations and detective capability was used to pick the best of the best DIT in KE Region, covering a yearlong assessment from March 2011 to February 2012.  Each District in KE Region nominated its best DIT for the final selection.

The winning team was chosen by a Selection Committee chaired by Acting Regional Commander Blake Hancock and comprising the Deputy District Commanders of Wong Tai Sin, Sau Mau Ping and Kwun Tong, Senior Superintendent Crime KE and Superintendent (Administration & Support) Crime KE as members. Following an open and impartial selection process on July 5, the Selection Committee picked DIT 1 of Sau Mau Ping District to be the first Best DIT of KE Region.

At a ceremony held in Sau Mau Ping Police Station on July 16, Mr Hancock presented certificates to members of the winning team for their contribution and exemplary performance. The winning team comprises seven junior officers led by Detective Inspector Tam Yu-hei.
